1poundbeef flank steak, sliced thinly against the grain
1tablespoonvegetable oil
4clovesgarlic, finely minced
2to 3Thai bird's eye chilies, thinly sliced
1tablespoonsoy sauce
1tablespoonoyster sauce
1tablespoonfish sauce
1tablespoonbrown sugar
1cupfresh Thai basil leaves
1mediumred bell pepper, cut into thin strips
1cupjasmine rice
Instructions
Begin by rinsing the jasmine rice under cold running water until the water appears clear. In a medium-sized pot, combine the rice with 2 cups of water and bring it to a vigorous boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for approximately 15 minutes, or until the water has been fully absorbed. Afterward, remove from heat and keep covered for an additional 5 minutes. Use a fork to fluff the rice just before serving.
In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, and brown sugar until the sugar is dissolved. Set this flavorful mixture aside for later use.
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once the oil is shimmering, add the minced garlic and sliced bird's eye chilies, sautéing them for about 30 seconds to unleash their fragrant aroma.
Add the thinly sliced beef to the hot skillet. Stir-fry the beef for 3-5 minutes, ensuring it's cooked through and begins to brown slightly.
Next, add the sliced red bell pepper to the skillet. Continue stir-frying for an additional 2 minutes, letting the peppers soften slightly while maintaining some crunch.
Pour the prepared sauce over the beef and bell peppers within the skillet. Stir well to coat all ingredients evenly, cooking for another minute to allow the sauce to thicken slightly and infuse flavors.
Remove the skillet from heat, then gently fold in the fresh Thai basil leaves, allowing them to wilt with the residual heat and meld their flavor into the dish.
Serve the sizzling spicy Thai basil beef hot atop a generous bed of jasmine rice for a delightful meal.
Notes
Adjust the number of chilies based on your spice preference. Regular basil can be used if Thai basil is unavailable.
